Description

Hong Kong’s New Identity Politics: Longing for the Local in the Shadow of China,談到近年有關香港身份認同的出版物以及影視作品,再去思考本地身份認同論述的可能。

While “the death of Hong Kong” has become the talk of the town, the term buntou (local) goes viral everywhere. In the recent political incidents, the city has even drawn unprecedented attention across the world. In this new era, is the discourse on Hong Kong identity, emerging out the pre-1997 period, still meaningful? Has it undergone great changes? What does remain intact?
We will begin our dialogue with Iam-chong Ip’s new book titled Hong Kong’s New Identity Politics: Longing for the Local in the Shadow of China. We will then explore the publications and other media texts for reflecting upon the new possibilities of narrating local identity.
