The talk introduces participants of the Tongji-Lingnan “Language and Culture” Summer School to the conceptual metaphor theory (CMT) and conceptual metonymy theory (CMyT) in the field of cognitive semantics. Through the lens of cognitive semantic theories, the talk explores the conceptual mechanisms of metaphor and metonymy in human cognition and explains the cognitive working of metaphorical and metonymic expressions in literary and non-literary contexts.
