Generativity in Translation Education: Towards a New Paradigm for Teaching Computer-aided Translation

Activity: Talks or PresentationsOther Invited Talks or Presentations

Description

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) is a new technology that can produce diverse and dynamic outputs based on different inputs and parameters. This paper explores the impact and implications of GAI on translation education, especially on computer-aided translation (CAT) courses. It argues that GAI offers a new paradigm for teaching CAT, as it enables students to exercise more creativity and generativity in their translation tasks. It also discusses the challenges and opportunities of integrating GAI into CAT curriculum and pedagogy, such as how to compare, evaluate, and improve translation outputs, how to optimize the use of translation resources, how to apply GAI in various scenarios, and how to interact with GAI systems. It further reflects on the role of human teachers in the era of GAI, and the ethical and social issues that may arise from using GAI for translation education. It concludes by anticipating the future developments and directions of GAI for translation education.
