The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected higher education development globally. Well before the COVID-19 crisis, higher education systems around the world have gone through rapid expansion through the massification process. The COVID-19 crisis has adverse impact on higher education development. This paper sets out against the COVID-19 crisis context to critically examine the impact of the global health crisis on higher education, especially examining the impact on higher education massification. This paper will also reflect upon prospects, challenges and strategies that universities should adopt to promote quality education in the post-COVID-19 era.
