Description
The research workshop introduces participants to the fundamentals of research methods in the field of applied linguistics. Topics include the basic research methodologies (qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methodologies) in applied linguistics, purposes of research (explorative, descriptive, and explanatory research), criteria for selecting research methods, and issues in data collection and analysis for undergraduate-level research projects. Participants will have the opportunities to discuss with the guest speaker and fellow audience members questions about conducting primary research and to formulate a tentative yet viable, working plan for their future research design and planning.
