Description
Contemporary organizations are embracing a diverse workforce. While organizations promote diversity in anticipation of productivity and innovation, diversity is found to increase interpersonal conflicts, discrimination, burnout, insecurity, and counterproductive behaviors among employees. Thus, this topic aims to understand by what means and in what conditions organizations could unlock the benefits of diversity and overcome its potential detriments. Focusing on the team level, we examined how functionally diverse teams could achieve higher outcomes through the elaborated decision-making process, and to what extent this process is contingent on a supportive external environment. Shifting from the team level to the individual level, we examined how individuals could profit from diversity through bottom-up approaches (e.g., help- seeking behavior, job crafting, and network crafting), and to what extent this process is contingent on individuals' personal resources (e.g., openness to experience, emotional intelligence). We conducted quantitative studies to answer these questions including the diary design, field- experimental design, and archive database. Using a hybrid perspective (i.e., individual level, team level), this topic provides valuable insights into how organizations efficiently manage workplace diversity.Period | 31 Oct 2022 |
