Why Math Learning Is So Hard for Some Children: Early Cognitive and Numerical Precursors of Mathematical Difficulty

Activity: Talks or PresentationsOther Invited Talks or Presentations

Description

The need for people to understand and use data is steadily increasing with the development of modern society, yet 5%-8% of students struggle with mathematics learning. These students are typically referred to as students with dyscalculia. Dyscalculia is typically diagnosed after children have received formal mathematical education in primary school, but early signs of mathematical difficulty could manifest prior to formal education. In this talk, I will share a study aiming to identify kindergarten children at risk for dyscalculia and investigate their early general cognitive and numerical precursors.
