Biography
Feifei Zhou joined the Department of English in January, 2016. She received her PhD in Linguistics and the History of Ideas from the University of Hong Kong.
Her research interests include history of linguistics, health discourses and linguistic landscapes. She is near completion of a book project on models of the human in twentieth-century linguistic theories. Her funded project (FRG: 101841) investigates cancer patients’ discourses concerning WSM and TCM treatment options. She is also interested in health knowledge communication on various digital platforms in China, and the effects of these new platforms in shaping our understandings of (lay) expertise, scientific knowledge and health practices. Another strand of her research studies how languages are used in space- and place-making in transitional China by incorporating perspectives and methodologies from sociolinguistics, cultural geography and urban studies. She welcomes opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations with researchers of shared interests.
