Research interests

My research focuses on the evolution of tree frogs in Middle America and Asia. I am interested in understanding the roles that morphology, microhabitat and phylogeny have on the diversification of this group of frogs. I like to answer my research questions using a multidisciplinary approach.  I combine experimental fieldwork, molecular laboratory work, museum specimens measurements and comparative phylogenetic approaches.

My previous and ongoing side projects are interdisciplinary and highly collaborative. These projects include natural history notes, species descriptions, phylogenetics and systematics, biogeography, niche modeling, phylogeography, functional morphology and comparative analyses. I am currently a Postdoctoral fellow with Jon Fong at the Science Unit in Lingan University, Hong Kong. My project focuses on building a natural history collection of Hong King’s amphibians and reptiles for conservation and education, with a genetic case-study on the endangered tree frog Liuixalus romeri.

I earned my undergraduate and master's degree in Mexico City at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, and I eaned my PhD at the Unversity of Washington, Seattle, USA
