Biography
Professor Patrick Shing-Chung POON is the Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies), Director of Undergraduate Business Programmes, and Professor of Teaching in the Department of Marketing and International Business, Faculty of Business. He was the founding Director of Queensland-Lingnan Master of Technology Management (MTM) Programme and took up various administrative positions such as Associate Director of Business Programmes (External Relations), Department Head of Marketing and International Business, and a member of the Board of Governors of Community College at Lingnan University. He received his PhD (major in Technology Management and Marketing) and Master of Engineering and Technology Management from the University of Queensland. He obtained his second doctoral degree (Dr rer pol, major in Marketing) at the University of Mainz.
Professor Poon currently serves as the Co-Director of Center for Luxury Research at the University of Mainz, and External Advisor of Caritas Institute of Higher Education. He had been serving as the Adjunct Professor, School of Economics and Management at the Bejiing Jiaotong University and Adjunct Chair Professor of Marketing at the Northeast Normal University. He is now a Specialist in Marketing of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) and a mentor of AACSB business accreditation. He also serves as a reviewer of Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong for ECS, GRF and FDS applications. Prior to joining academia, Professor Poon had a long service of almost 10 years in the hospital sector in Hong Kong and Australia as a medical laboratory officer with an associateship of the Institute of Biomedical Science. He was a registered Medical Technologist in Hong Kong, major in haematology and serology. In addition, he was the sole proprietor of a trading company selling medical laboratory products and diagnostic kits to hospitals and medical laboratories in Hong Kong.
Professor Poon has extensive teaching experience at varying levels, from diploma to doctoral programs. His research interests include cross-cultural consumer behaviour, services marketing, new product development, strategic brand management, and tourism management. His works have appeared in books and many respectable international journals, including top tier journals in hospitality management and tourism marketing. He has co-chaired a number of large-scale international conferences on marketing and sustainable development. He has received awards and recognitions by international conferences and academic organizations. He always serves as a judge for open competitions on entrepreneurship and brand management. He has served on the editorial review board of international journals and has been a consultant to local and overseas companies concerning corporate marketing strategies.
