Dr. Ronnie H. Shroff, Ph.D. in Information Systems, brings over 20 years of experience in teaching, faculty development, academic support, institutional administration and quality assurance in higher education. Based in Hong Kong, his work is centred on educational technology, instructional design, technology-enhanced learning, learning innovations and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education. In his previous roles at CityU, EdUHK, HKBU and PolyU, he focused on blended learning, Outcomes-Based Approaches to Teaching and Learning (OBATL) and digital technology integration. His work focuses on advancing pedagogical frameworks, enhancing teaching effectiveness and optimising student learning outcomes through innovative assessment and teaching strategies.
Currently, Dr. Shroff serves as the Principal Project Fellow at the Teaching and Learning Centre of Lingnan University, where he leads inter-institutional projects funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. His initiatives have led to the establishment of a quality assurance framework for virtual teaching and learning (VTL) specifically tailored to the Hong Kong context, as well as the development of the IDEAL-Gen.AI (Instructional Design Enhanced Active Learning through Generative Artificial Intelligence), an AI-driven tool for instructional design. The IDEAL-Gen.AI platform has been granted a short-term patent in Hong Kong, with a corresponding application pending in the United States. Dr. Shroff's impactful work, leadership and scholarly contributions to teaching and learning within and across universities in the UGC sector have been recognised as a finalist for the prestigious 2025 UGC Teaching Award (Collaborative Teams).
As the leader of the DREAM (Digital Resources for Enhancing Adaptive Methodologies) Team, Dr. Shroff collaborates with academics from HKUST, CUHK and PolyU to advance AI-enhanced education, addressing diverse learning needs and supporting UNESCO’s Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) to promote inclusive and equitable quality education.
