Dr. Tiffany W. M. Fong (PhD, MDes, MA)
Dr. Fong, born and raised in Hong Kong, is a professional in Design Economics and Entrepreneurship, with a focus on design innovation and education. She earned a PhD in Design Economics with a focus on Design Entrepreneurship for startups and Design Education from the School of Design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She also holds two master’s degrees: an MA in Fashion and Textiles and an MDes in Design Education, both from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. With 20 years of experience in industry and academia, Dr. Fong has worked as a designer in fashion and visual communication design. She has collaborated with brands from Japan, Europe, and Hong Kong. Her dedication to helping designers build their businesses stems from her work experience, including her involvement in launching the Design Incubation Programme in 2005 at Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. In this role, she contributed to supporting design and technology startups throughout the entire incubation process.
In academia, Dr. Fong has taught various design courses and programs, such as design thinking, fashion design, visual culture, brand management, small business, cultural and creative industries, design management, design development, and arts and design theories. She has held academic positions in research and teaching (AP and L) at the University of Southampton (UK), the University of Warwick (UK), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Design Institute. Dr. Fong’s research interests include business incubation, design startups, design entrepreneurship, the creative economy, and design education. She has been involved in research and practical work in business incubation for design startups, providing insights into supporting the growth of design-driven businesses. She is currently focusing on these areas and advanced technologies to support artists and designers.
