Abstract

在過去十年跨國文化散布的研究中,諸多學者均認為,「中心—邊陲」或「西方(尤其是美國)—非西方」等二元對立的架構已無法解釋現今文化擴散現象之複雜性。然而,此西方學術界的產物並沒有因此而絕跡,而最有趣的莫過於以一種「換湯不換藥」的形式再度出現於我們眼前。本文質疑近年,某些學者將日本流行文化在亞洲諸國之盛行歸因到文化相似性,進而主張亞洲流行文化與媒體已經脫離了西方霸權之力量,並「再中心化」到日本的論述。雖然,此論述驟然看似顛覆了文化霸權論述,但實質上,只是從美國換到日本去,而亞洲諸國的人民卻一如以往,無法抵抗外來文化的襲擊,更遑論改變自身命運的能力。本文藉由探討日本色情A片在香港之流行,說明香港觀眾並沒有全盤接收日本A片,而是通過「純情」這一本土概念來作出選擇,並排除其他不合適的日本A片類型,進而利用日本A片來豐富自身的本土文化。也許,文化相似性能夠使港人易於接受日本A片,但是此概念卻無法解釋為何他們鍾情於某一種A片類型和女性形象。從香港的A片使用者的角度出發的話,日本根本不是所謂的「中心」,充其量只是邊陲而已。

In the past decade, many scholars have pointed to the limitation of the dualistic paradigms such as "entre / periphery" or "the west (i.e. the US) - the rest" in articulating the complexity of diverse movements of things and ideas across national borders. Yet it does not mean that these paradigms will die out. This paper questions a variant of this sort of paradigm in recent years in which the popularity of Japanese popular culture in Asia is attributed to cultural proximity and hence the globalisation of popular culture and media in Asia has been recentred to Japan. While it aims to transcend the centre / periphery, it repeats it by simply replacing the US with Japan, and people in Asia continue to be "historyless," lacking any agency to determine their own lives. Through an examination of the popularity of Japanese adult videos (AVs) in Hong Kong, this paper argues that Hong Kong consumers never absorb everything in Japanese AVs. Instead they rely on the local concept of shun chine to determine which production style and actress they will find favour with. In the eyes of local people, Japan is never the centre; at best she is the periphery.
