Abstract
Hong Kong Chinese is a variety of standard Chinese in Hong Kong. The conjunctions used in Hong Kong Chinese differ from those in standard Chinese in syntactic function, semantic relation and usage. The differences in syntactic function lie in the nature of grammatical units connected, which represents different semantic relations accordingly. While the differences in usage consist in frequency and type of writing. And there are also some unique conjunctions and collocations. The influence of English, Cantonese and ancient Chinese and the innovation mechanism of language itself account for the features of conjunctions in Hong Kong Chinese.
