论翻译的暴力 : The Violence of Translation

翻译与暴力似乎有不解之缘,暴力产生的不同诱因和具有的各种形式值得探索一番。表面上,暴力似乎是由不可译引致的——无奈的解决之道。在多元文化的社会里暴力的文化内涵与人们对翻译性质的认识息息相关。本文的目的是探索和阐述暴力是如何根深蒂固地影响翻译行为的。由于翻译易受源语与目标语之间权利关系变化的影响,某种形式和程度的暴力行为必然会在翻译过程中出现。

The entwinement of translation and violence makes the causes and forms of the latter of worthy topic for translation studies. The cultural connotations of violence in a multicultural society are closely related to understanding of the nature of translation. It is out of the necessity to overcome untranslatability that violence is resorted to as a reluctantly chosen means. And since translation is primarily determined by the power relations between the source and the target languages, the involvement of violence to various degrees is unavoidable in the process of translation, Violence influences translation activities in a fundamental way.
