《魏風·陟岵》“岵” · “屺”小議

歷來學者對《魏風ㆍ陟岵》中“岵”、“屺”二字的解說頗有分歧。各說大體可歸納為兩種說法：一是據《毛傳》, 認為“岵”為無草木之山、“屺”為多草木之山；二是依《爾雅》, 認為“岵”為多草木之山、“屺”為無草木之山。本文嘗試評議當中主要的兩種說法, 並透過梳理文獻和考察字義, 探討二字的意義。

Scholars have long held divergent views on the interpretation of “Hu岵” and “Qi屺” in the poem “Weifeng Zhihu魏風 · 陟岵”. The explanations could generally be categorized into two main sources. The first one is based on “MaoZhuan毛傳,” in which “Hu岵” refers to the hill devoid of grass while “Qi屺” represents the hill covered with grass. The second one is based on the “Erya爾雅,” which suggests that “Hu岵” represents the hill covered with grass while “Qi屺” refers to the hill devoid of grass. This article aims to evaluate the two main interpretations and, through in an in-depth examination of relevant ancient texts, explore the meaning of these two words in this poem.
