Abstract

Industry is the heaviest CO2 emission sector in China, its annual CO2 emissions account for more than 70% of the country's total carbon emissions. The top three CO2 emitters are thermal power plants, iron & steel plants and cement plants. Currently there is limited understanding and only few projects of carbon capture and storage in China to draw the industry owners’ attention and attract them to be involved in CCS. Considering the construction cost and time consumption of the demonstration plants, a small-scale mobile CO2 capture test unit is a better option 1) to show the owners the real-time performance of the CO2 capture technologies, 2) to improve the technology or its process with the test data, 3) to select the appropriate capture technology for the site, and 4) to reduce the technology risk of the future large-scale industrial application. Two key sections of the MCCT are the pre-treatment and carbon capture test sections. The pre-treatment section is designed to further purify and adjust the temperature of the flue gas to meet the feed-in flue gas requirement of the carbon capture system. The amine-based carbon capture technology and membrane separation technology are selected as the tested technology for the carbon capture section design.
