Asia Green Group: crossing the generational chasm for sustainability

The second generation of Asia Green Group, a Malaysian family business group in the timber and property sectors, is stepping up to lead the company. Every year, the six siblings of the second generation have a family retreat, discussing issues of the family and business. As part of the sibling team, Mei Tan is considering developing a township for the elderly and retirees, addressing their physical and social needs. However, before proceeding to her father James Tan, who focuses more on financials, Mei would like to seek her siblings’ opinions regarding her idea. Her siblings have been involved with multiple sustainability initiatives, from those more related to their core businesses to some of their own projects. It is to make sense of why and how her siblings launched and implemented the existing sustainability projects and how she can engage interest from the family and the father in particular.
