Abstract

CineSim is a media education software fully funded by University Grants Council (UGC), Hong Kong. Initially and currently it is developed and managed by Department of Digital Arts and Creative Industries, Lingnan University. CineSim aims at providing a realistic 3D environment for educators and students, as well as media enthusiast to showcase their creativity in 3D realistic graphics.

CineSim is a virtual platform for filmmaking training scalable. In the immersive environment, students practice lighting, lens choice, and camera movement in a photorealistic space, replacing costly sets with immersive, measurable, and repeatable simulation.

Key Features & Advantages
- Versatile Interactive virtual studio for filmmaking training
- Dynamic cinematic sandbox: Intuitive camera control, lighting, movement, and storyboarding
- Comprehensive library for customisable scenes, props, and characters with animated pose and emotion control
- CineSim VR: Enhance first-hand spatial awareness without any physical constraints
- Open a larger market for media education beyond the limitation of expensive full-scale physical studio Powerful pre-visualization production toolkit: Fast visualisation and planning
- Promote Creativity in the age of self-media

CineSim is an ALL-in-ONE 3D cinematography simulation platform that provides immersive, photorealistic training in media production. In the interactive virtual environment, the filmmaking user can effectively acquire real-world-like skills in cinematography, lighting, camera movement, and storyboarding. It allows creative exploration and visualization. It, in turn, not only improves the student’s filmmaking quality but also provides a cost-effective platform for film production.

CineSim VR extends the CineSim ecosystem into a fully immersive spatial experience. Users can step into a virtual 3D film setting to set scenes and perform shooting using VR controllers. This extension brings a first-person, hands-on approach to film production learning — enhancing creativity, comprehension of filmmaking, and skill development without the constraints of expensive physical equipment and limited studio space.
