Abstract

This paper describes a client-server distributed computing model which is established on an Ethernet-based LANs (Local Area Network). Simple PCs serves as clients and a high performance i486 CICS processor workstation with i860 RISC processor as a coprocessor. Remote Procedure Call Facilities are designed and implemented for the above distributed processing system to support remote compilation and remote program execution. An I860 RISC networked compiler is also designed to facilitate the use of RISC server. The system is designed under the OSI/ISO reference model with modularization. It is also kept small and simplicity in development, testing and debugging. Also, the use of RPC mechanism which facilitate a high degree of programmer transparency. The client-server model is successfully build and the performance is evaluated. It is found that the system using the powerful RISC server have superior performance of a PC running local applications.
