Abstract

What is ecolinguistics and how does it relate to other academic disciplines? Figure 22.1 suggests ecolinguistics is fundamentally an interplay between ecology and linguistics. In keeping with the theme of this chapter, the relationship between literature and ecolinguistics, the bottom right of the figure indicates that literary criticism and linguistic description can both contribute to ecostylistics (see Virdis, this volume), and ecostylistics can have a reciprocal relationship with ecolinguistics.
