The enlargement has led to a higher IR profile for the EU and EU external diplomacy has been deeply affected by the events surrounding 9/11. At the same time economic development and transition politics have also transformed regional and international relations among the Asian states over the past two decades. Europe and Asia are therefore two major centres for the development of multi-polar and multi-lateral relations.
