Abstract
Translational poetics represents the greatest achievement of Anglo-American poetic modernism. Having learned the ideogrammic method from the Chinese, Ezra Pound becomes a translational poet, who uses over twenty languages in his Cantos and creates between these languages a relationship that Walter Benjamin tries to describe in his famous essay on translation. What Benjamin articulates in theory has actually been realized in poetry by Pound, who digs deep into the Chinese box of sound symbolism in order to explore the terrain of pure language.
