從《遐邇貫珍》的“喻言一則”到《英華青年》的英譯“中國故事” : 東西文化交流的一個側面

    Abstract

    英華書院 (Anglo-Chinese College, Ying Wa College) 由英國倫敦傳道會 (London Missionary Society) 牧師馬禮遜 (Robert Morrison, 1787-1834) 於1818年在馬六甲創校,1843年遷港,是香港最早的西式學校。英華書院與基督教來華傳教的歷史、中西文化交流等有不可分割的關係。英華書院在出版方面,在當時也發揮過重要的影響力。《遐邇貫珍》(Chinese Serial) 和《英華青年》都是由英華書院印刷的刊物,《遐邇貫珍》第壹號出版於1853年,是香港第一份中文月刊:《英華青年》是1914年英華書院復校後的學生報。本文透過分析《遐邇貫珍》的“喻言一則”和《英華青年》的英譯“中國故事”,從側面探討香港在上世紀交接時東西文化交流的現象。
