Gerontechnology Development in Hong Kong: Insights from a Survey on Public Perceptions

Abstract

This study explores public perceptions of gerontechnology education and its importance in addressing the needs of an ageing population in Hong Kong. Drawing on survey data collected by Lingnan University, Hong Kong, the research reveals that over 90% of respondents believe that education in gerontechnology is crucial. The survey highlights the widespread recognition of the role that technology can play in enhancing the quality of life for older adults. This study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the data, examining demographic variations in responses and identifying key factors that influence public opinion. The findings underscore the need for integrating gerontechnology into educational curricula and policy frameworks to better prepare society for demographic shifts. The implications for educators, policymakers, and technology developers are discussed, emphasizing the potential benefits of fostering a technologically adept and gerontology-aware workforce in Hong Kong.
