Abstract

We live in an urban age. Most people now live in cities and cities are mostly housing. This article emphasizes the centrality of housing in everyday life and as a focal point of social and political conflict. It highlights the connections between housing and the life course, health, education, and social status. It describes the key terms that social scientists have employed to explore housing and cities and the different theoretical perspectives that have been used to explain the distribution of urban housing.
