Abstract

This anthology showcases the English translations of 14 Hong Kong urban stories written by such local writers as Shu Xiangcheng, Liu Yichang, Li Wai-ling and Yesi and published from the 1950s to the 1990s. The short stories depict how Hong Kong people confront a reality far beyond their control. The book cover shows a man climbing up and falling down Jardine House, a commercial building formerly known as Connaught Centre, representing a cruel reality facing  the people who live in this city.
