Abstract

In the in-depth interviews, both the United States and Chinese participants expressed their hope and confidence for a bright future of Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) and Ethnic Minority-Serving Institutions (EMSIs). However, in order to achieve this optimistic future, interviewees from both countries presented different blueprints for TCUs and EMSIs. In addition to increasing their visibility in the United States society, TCUs need to continue to focus on successful strategies and good practices to avoid pitfalls and shortcomings. For EMSIs, they need to improve their ability to take advantage of various national policies. Finally, both the United States and Chinese interviewees stressed the significance of improving the quality of programs offered by TCUs and EMSIs.
