Abstract
Two decades ago, Huangcheng Village was poor and backward but, with the adoption of the reform and opening policy, this village is on the way to prosperity and has become famous in China. The descendants of Chen Tingjing (1639-1712), a renowned premier during the Qing Dynasty (1616-1911), have become modern farmers and lead a life even the city dwellers envy. How did they become so prosperous? What wisdom and foresight does the leader of village have? What’s the future if Huangcheng Village?
With these questions in mind, we went to Huangcheng Village in April 2007 and interviewed Mr. Zhang Jiasheng, Chairman of the Board and General Manager of the Huangcheng Xiangfu Group, and Party Secretary of the village. This 51-year-old Huangcheng-bred gentleman talked to us about the villagers’ yesterday, today and tomorrow.
