Abstract

Building on long-standing approaches to student exchange, study abroad, and faculty exchange programs, institutions of higher education (IHEs) are seeing increasing value in serving communities through internationalization (Bringle et al., 2011; Hartman et al., 2018; Lazarus, 2007; Ma & Tandon, 2014). Along with growing regional networks and a more robust evidence base, educators are increasingly searching for ways to incorporate service-learning and community engagement (SLCE) more broadly into their academic and study abroad programs (Bringle & Hatcher, 2011).
