Abstract

Agent-based distributed task allocation based on a contract-net negotiation protocol is known to be susceptible to the problem of message congestion which could seriously degrade the performance of agent negotiation process. Despite that, while many studies on agent-based manufacturing control involve such a protocol, few of them attempt to address to the problem. This paper reviews these attempts and suggests ways of further investigation into tackling the problem.
