The Challenges in Senior Citizen Arts: The Case of a Senior Citizen Wind Band

Abstract

The article looks at the challenges of promoting senior citizen arts. Arts is a critical and widely used tool to achieve social change. Senior citizen arts had been introduced to change public perception towards the elderly population. In recent years especially for the past decade, senior citizen arts comprised of varying art forms had been extensively explored and promoted. The case study of senior citizens discussed in this article takes music as an art form of focus. The article will review the impact of senior citizen arts on the participants themselves and the public. The level of professionalism and quality senior citizens and support from professional artists and how they perceive senior citizen arts will also be debated in this article. Lastly, this article will also reflect on the value of senior citizen arts to the community.
