Abstract

This study explores the intrinsic link between Zhuangzi’s philosophy-emphasizing harmony with nature, inaction, and freedom-and the spirit of Chinese art, which values individual expression, emotional depth, and natural beauty. Zhuangzi’s principles of aligning with natural processes and advocating for a life of ‘wu-wei’ (effortless action) are mirrored in the artistic pursuit of simplicity and philosophical depth. The paper highlights how Zhuangzi’s ideas of ‘free wandering’ resonate with the artistic spirit of expressing personal identity and appreciating nature, promoting a unity between humanity and the natural world. Through examining the mutual enrichment between Zhuangzi’s philosophy and Chinese art, this analysis reveals their combined impact on contemporary art and cultural understanding. It underscores the significance of their relationship in shaping the aesthetic and philosophical dimensions of Chinese art, offering insights into its future development.
