Abstract
We explain six aspects of the service leadership initiative for undergraduates at Lingnan University. The first comprises co-curricular service leadership through service-learning projects that we have embedded within seven different credit-bearing courses. The second is a comprehensive infrastructure for setting up and supporting such projects. The third is a set of templates that we developed as resources for students to undertake self-, peer-, and team-review exercises of their attempts to practice ten attributes of service leadership during the projects or practicums. We provide illustrative extracts from two completed templates. The fourth aspect is an eight-facet model of the process of developing service leaders through the projects, which we developed on the basis of formative evaluation studies. The fifth comprises sponsored opportunities for students to conduct extracurricular service leadership practicums with community or noncommercial organizations, mainly during the summer recess. The sixth involves discipline-based quantitative and qualitative research into service leadership in commercial settings.
