Abstract
This chapter begins with a summary of the background of the women’s and feminist movements in Hong Kong. It then delineates the sector’s development and identifies the structural challenges that threaten the sustainability of the non–state-affiliated progressive feminist movement. After that, the chapter critically examines the idea of a self-limiting movement as an epistemological and political strategy and discusses its applications in the context of Hong Kong feminist advocacy. It concludes by drawing inspiration from the strategies of resistance used by activists from different localities in response to local and global challenges to gender equality.
