Turning Bad Times Into Good Times and Good Times Into Better Ones

Abstract

I intended this article to (re)open a number of conversations about learning at work, specifically about learning in self-presentation. micropolitics, organisational culture and staff management. I recently completed a two year research project, asking middle managers and administrators in a local authority and in a multinational company how they had learned and developed in and through their work experiences. The majority of examples of learning at work described to me in the research interviews focused on management between people and on operating within organisational cultures and webs of micropolitics.
