Abstract

This study investigates the existing evidence for online courses in China’s higher education context. The two research questions are: What are the key features of online courses in Chinese universities or colleges? How do Chinese teachers and students perceive online courses? This study aims to gather and map practices related to online courses in China. A scoping review is used to ensure a systematic methodology and achieve the aim above. Open-access literature owning empirical evidence from quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods is included in the review. Using thematic content analysis to explore the data extracted from included articles, this study presents the results of features and perception in the above research questions. Discussions are also conducted regarding the future development path of online courses based on the findings of the review.
