Abstract

In this paper, I argue that there is a two-way process in the post-Sovi et hybrid regime transition. On the one hand, hybrid regimes like Georgia, Romania, and Armenia followed the traditional, transitional paradigm in order to finish the democratic transition but stagnated in the hybrid regime stage for many years. On the other hand, due to a continuous decline in democratic indicators, some full or flawed democratic regimes begin to transfer to hybrid regimes like Ukraine and Moldova, although since specific regime transitions can take very different trajectories, much transitional evidence still has been proven the transitional path is in contradiction with the democratization transition paradigm, and stagnate in the hybrid stage. Why this two-way process of transition ends up at the hybrid regime stage? Existing literature often discusses the factors of their transition separately but rarely combines the two paths to summarize the common factors. Hence, this research will seek to use the TWFE model and LASSO regression method to study hybrid regime s tagnation and to consider factors that perpetuate hybridity or catalyze democratization.
