Abstract
Muthiah Alagappa's latest book, Asian Security Order: Instrumental and Normative Features, represents a milstone in the study of security in the Asia-pacific region. It makes important contributions in two aspects: blending international relations theory with Asian regional studies, and explaining why the Asia-pacific region has seen increased cooperation instead of conflict. The book does an admirable job with both tasks.
